I'm only going to say this once.

Why the hell is my face – or Des's face – on a list of murder suspects, and who the hell murdered Ms. Vassey? And why didn't I hear about this until TWO WEEKS AFTER THE FACT?

The body of one of our Hotel residents was apparently found two weeks ago on Navy Pier. The police report pegs someone who looks exactly like Des or I as the last person seen with her.

I don't think, at this point, the Rani is about to let me leave before her research is done, so as long as no one bursts in here and hauls me off for questioning, I'm not going anywhere. But someone out there is killing our people and Des and I are both implicated, so you'll understand how that's making me a bit edgy.

This is bullshit. The possibility that there's three... No, wait. Scratch that. There are three people who look like Mathias here, but that's not the point.

It could seriously be another one... Or it could be something else entirely. You ever consider the possibility that it might not be someone who looks like us as much as it could be someone who can look like us? Shapeshifters come in all sorts beyond the Rift, you know. Although that doesn't hold much weight when you consider that it would have to be someone who knows one or both of us or has at least seen us around enough to mimic our likeness.

Either way, this is all kinds of Not Good, obviously.

Yeah, if you want to start listing possibilities, there's also the chance that someone got a picture of one of us and has enough connections in the police department to start making our lives miserable. Or placed a psychic imprint in the witnesses minds to make them think they saw one of us. Or has an ability like JD's projectile imagination, but controlled. There are way, way too many variables here.

You'd think if any of that were the case and we're not actually dealing with someone who just happens to look like us, it would be someone who knows us and wants to make us look bad (or one of us, anyway)... And I know we're not exactly discreet individuals, but considering we're not exactly known by the general populace of Chicago, that narrows the spectrum down significantly.

...Or it would if you didn't have to take into consideration the fact that we both have dealt with some crazy-ass things in our worlds that would have no qualms committing a murder while looking like us, whether they knew we were here or not... Well, okay, I know things like that anyway. Can't say the same for you, honestly.

It's fucking complicated, no matter which way you look at it.

Yeah. And not only do I have to worry about my own past following me through, there's the past from the version of my whose universe all of Torchwood is from too. Who, if the way my team reacts is any indication, seriously deserves a smack across the teeth. I don't want to know what kind of crap might have followed them through the Rift.

At the moment I'm tied up at the Clinic so they can use me to study cures for the plague, and the Doctor has sworn me off doing anything until that's over and done with.
