Well, there were demons and assassinations and Judges coming out of nowhere, so I just naturally assumed that something was going on. Aren't we apparently in a war zone or something?

Hold on. Judges coming out of nowhere? When did that happen and why didn't I know about it?

Couple days ago. Sam and I went out for a beer, and on the way back one of those skittery ones--Supplicants, aren't they?--falls out of the air in front of us and kills me. A bit later, apparently they picked up its dismembered body on the shore of Lake Michigan. What the hell dismembers a Judge?

Couldn't tell you, never having actually met one. Unless it happened to fall back through the Rift. How dismembered was it?

Well, torn into hunks and missing bits. I haven't actually seen the body — some local police angel took care of it. And since when do we have police angels? Shouldn't that have been in the pamphlet?

Well, that's a relief. The only thing worse than the sudden appearance of Judges would be the sudden appearance of something worse than Judges Never mind. Apparently I'm doing tautologies today.

I haven't heard about anything all that dramatic since I got here. It seems very quiet for the world ending, Jack. But I've only lived through one near-apocalypse, so what do I know?

And what are you going to assume now?

And, never mind. I started a sentence and it went mad got away from me. In ways I didn't know sentences could get away from me.
